    Piano and Keyboard Lessons

     

    20+ years teaching experience following a PGCE.

    Piano Diploma from Trinity College London (ATCL) and Professional Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and Musicians' Union

    Ethos

    • Lesson content and pace is tailored to the cognitive, practical and emotional needs of each student
    • Emphasis is always placed on enjoyment and self-achievement whilst evolving playing techniques
    • Broad range of music genres are taught to allow for all tastes. Modern styles include Popular, Rock, Electronic and Anime. Traditional styles include Classical, Romantic, Baroque and Jazz

    Resources

    • Music genre diversity is encouraged to maximise learning experience, aid flexibility and adaptation
    • Students are helped to explore music artists and pieces to discover what really inspires them
    • Advice is given on sourcing repertoire and bespoke arrangements are provided

    Practice

    • Help is provided to find realistic and regular practice routines that naturally integrate music into busy lives
    • Students are encouraged to set personal goals and to practice with a challenge in mind, whether that be personal mastery of a piece, a performance or an examination
    • Good practice techniques are modelled to maximise progress and efficiency

    Performance

    • Students are encouraged to work towards performance goals
    • Performing opportunities include school concerts, festivals and on-line platforms
    • Achievements are celebrated in a relaxed and supportive environment

    Examinations

    • Extensive support is given to students wishing to sit exams at all grades and levels
    • Syllabus for ABRSM, Trinity and RSL Exam Boards are covered. 100% pass rate achieved to date; predominantly Distinction and Merit 
    • Solo and ensemble performance elements are taught for A Level and GCSE exams. 100% A* / Level 8 and 9 pass rate achieved to date

    Support

    • Notes are provided electronically via web-based music software after each lesson to guide home practice. Students are encouraged to discuss progress between lessons
    • Students are encouraged to have family and / or friends attend their lessons, in person or virtually. It is often easier for parents to support their children's home practice when they have experienced the lesson
    • Advice is given on appropriate strategies for improving techniques, enhancing musical appreciation and developing as a performer
